Working with no signal

A guide for collectors and drivers. Recording a pickup works with no signal. Everything else needs signal.

  1. Before you leave, with signal

Sign in. Open Collect, Collections and today’s Routes once each. The phone keeps them so they open with no signal.

On a map, press Save this map for offline if you see it. Then the map background still shows later.

Look at the top bar. It should say All synced.

  2. In the field: record each pickup

Open Collect. Choose the waste type, set the weight and press Save pickup.

With no signal you will see Saved on this phone. That is correct. It will send by itself when signal returns. Nothing is lost if you close the app.

The top bar shows how many are waiting, for example Offline, 3 waiting to sync.

  3. If a button says no connection

“No connection. Nothing was saved. Check your signal and press the button again.”

That action was not sent. Move to where there is signal and press the button again. Do not assume it went through.

  4. When you are back in signal

Open the app. The waiting number goes down to nothing on its own. To send now, tap the sync button in the top bar.

Wait until it says All synced before you sign out, clear the browser or hand the phone to someone else.

  5. Shared phone? Sign out

Sign out when you finish. It needs signal. It also removes the saved pages from the phone. If you cannot sign out with no signal, do it when signal returns.
